Skin Scrub Three Ways

Skin Scrub Three Ways

"I don't know what that brown stuff in shower is, but it's amazing"

—what my husband said to me this morning after he tried my coco and peppermint sugar scrub.

I've decided there's no easier or inexpensive way to get your spa on than homemade scrubs. They make your skin incredibly soft and can be like a mini vacation you can reach for anytime.

Here's my tried and true favorite recipes, but have fun customizing these with your own additives and essential oils.

Chocolate Peppermint Sugar Scrub

This is like bathing yourself in desert. It's yummy and refreshing!

Makes 1 cup / 8oz

Wide shallow jar, like this one

Label, like this one

1 cup sugar (try a coarse sugar, like turbinado)

1/4 c melted Coconut oil

1/4 c fractionated coconut oil (or a neutral oil like avocado or grape seed)

10-20 drops peppermint essential oil (or to your liking)

2 T best quality cocoa powder, add more if desired

Combine all ingredients in a bowl, then spoon into jar. The solid coconut oil will cool and thicken this scrub to a scoopable consistency, making it extra rich. You can use all liquid oil if you prefer.

Scrub do's:
• use organic ingredients
• look for interesting textures and shades of salt and sugar
• look in the bulk section of your natural foods market for great pricing on unique ingredients
• label your creation so you know what you used
• make an extra for a gift
Scrub don'ts:
• avoid fragrance oils and use essential oils
• when using additives be mindful that they are small enough to go down the drain and that they are not too sharp for delicate skin
• use hot oils like cinnamon
I hope you enjoy these creations!
